Where to Stay for a Tuacahn Show

Camping, cabins and hotels near Tuacahn Amphitheatre, compared honestly. Closest isn't always best: here's how to choose, and when a family base camp 40 minutes away makes the whole trip better.

How do the places to stay near Tuacahn compare?

Most people staying for a Tuacahn show end up in one of four places. Here's the honest side-by-side, including where we come up short.

Drive times are approximate (OpenStreetMap routing, no traffic) to Tuacahn, 1100 Tuacahn Drive, Ivins. Checked October 27, 2026; confirm details with each operator.

What is each option really like?

Closest

Ivins & the Kayenta area

Tuacahn sits in Ivins, just northwest of St. George, so this is as close as it gets: central Ivins is about 3 miles from the theatre. Kayenta, a small art community near Ivins, adds galleries, a café and desert trails for a daytime wander. Lodging leans toward vacation rentals and resort-style stays rather than campgrounds, so read each listing for minimum stays, pet rules and what's included.

Tip: Check Tuacahn's own Hotel Packages page before you book; it lists partner lodging offers.

Most choice

St. George hotels & RV parks

Greater Zion calls St. George Southwest Utah's largest metro area, and it has the most hotels, motels and restaurants in the region, about 15–20 minutes from Tuacahn. RV travelers will find private RV parks and campgrounds around the area, from full-hookup sites to simpler ones. It's a practical, flexible base, especially for a one-night trip.

Tip: If you're towing, confirm site length and hookups before you book; they vary a lot from park to park.

Most scenic camping

Snow Canyon State Park campground

The state park campground is open year-round inside Snow Canyon, about 2 miles in from either entrance, and the south entrance is roughly 7 minutes from Tuacahn. It has 13 standard sites, 16 partial-hookup sites (water and 30-amp power on most) and hike-in tent pads. There are no cabins and no sewer hookups at the site, but there's a dump station.

Tip: Book early: reservations open 4 months ahead and close 2 days out. Quiet hours start at 10 p.m., so plan a hushed return after the show.

Family base camp

Jellystone Park™ Zion, Hurricane

We're about 40 minutes from Tuacahn, so we're not the pick for a one-night theatre trip. We're the pick when the show is one night of a longer Greater Zion vacation: glamping cabins with real beds, full-hookup RV sites up to 75 feet, designated tent sites, and Sand Hollow State Park about 4 minutes away.

Tip: Make the show the middle night of a 3- or 4-night stay, and spend another day in Zion.

Why it works ›

When does Jellystone Park™ Zion make sense for a Tuacahn trip?

Straight talk: if you're flying in for one show and flying out the next morning, stay in Ivins or St. George. The 40-minute drive isn't worth it for a single night.

But most families don't come to Greater Zion for one evening. They come for Zion National Park, red rock hikes, a lake day and a big night under the cliffs at Tuacahn. That's where a base camp in Hurricane pays off:

  • One base, the whole region. Tuacahn and Snow Canyon about 40 minutes one way; Zion's Kolob Canyons entrance about 35 minutes and the South Entrance in Springdale about 45 minutes the other; Sand Hollow State Park about 4 minutes down the road; St. George about 25 minutes.
  • Room for everyone. Glamping cabins sleeping 5 to 9, and Yogi Bear™ cabins with stocked kitchens, so you're not squeezing a family into one hotel room for four nights.
  • Room for the rig. Full hookups with water, sewer and 30/50-amp power, pull-throughs up to 75 feet, and some sites on the lake. Leave the RV set up and take the tow car to the show.
  • Something for the off hours. The Yogi Bear™ Water Zone, with slides, a lazy river and a splash pad, plus the floating obstacle course, is included for everyone on your reservation during the Water Zone season. Through the winter, the heated lap pool and hot tub stay open for campers.
  • Family logistics on site. Air-conditioned comfort stations with restrooms and hot showers, the Ranger Station camp store, a playground and a jumping pillow, and pets welcome on RV sites.

Good to know before you book

  • Check-in: RV sites from 1 p.m.; cabins and tent sites from 4 p.m. If the show is your arrival day, that's tight, so arrive the day before.
  • No RV? Rent one through Glampers RV and have it delivered and set up on your site. See RV rentals.
  • Bringing a crowd? We can block RV sites, cabins and tent sites side by side and reserve the pavilion. See group stays.

How do you plan a Tuacahn night from Jellystone Park™ Zion?

The trick is pairing the show with Snow Canyon State Park, which sits right beside Tuacahn. Hike in the cool of the morning, rest in the afternoon, and you're already on the right side of St. George for curtain. Times below count back from your curtain time, which is printed on your ticket.

Show day

Snow Canyon by day, Tuacahn by night

  1. Early morning: Drive about 35–40 minutes to Snow Canyon. Easy family picks: Jenny's Canyon (0.5 mile, a short slot canyon) or the Petrified Dunes for slickrock scrambling. See the trail comparison.
  2. Midday: Back to camp for lunch, a nap and pool time. Or stay west and browse the Kayenta Art Village galleries (open daily 10 a.m.–5:30 p.m., per Visit Utah).
  3. About 2 hours before curtain: Leave our park. That covers roughly 45–50 minutes of evening driving plus arriving about 45 minutes early for parking.
  4. About 1 hour before: Catch the free Plaza Stage pre-show (most Amphitheatre nights), and grab dinner at the Tuacahn Café or concessions.
  5. After the show: Back the way you came, via Snow Canyon Parkway, I-15 north and SR-9 east. Kids in pajamas before you leave the lot.

Two ways to run the day

  • Back to camp at midday: about 80 extra minutes of round-trip driving, but little ones get a real nap and a cool-down before a late night. Best with young kids.
  • Stay west all day: less driving, and you can add a Snow Canyon trail in the late afternoon (the south entrance is about 7 minutes from Tuacahn). Best with teens and adults, outside the summer heat.
  • Summer heat: Snow Canyon advises avoiding activity from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. in summer, so hike at dawn and save the middle of the day for shade.

Full route and parking details are in our Tuacahn guide: driving, arrival & parking, food.

What does a Tuacahn and Zion trip look like?

3 nights

The long weekend

  1. Day 1: Arrive, settle into your cabin or site, and spend the afternoon at Sand Hollow, about 4 minutes away. Campfire at night.
  2. Day 2: Snow Canyon in the morning, rest at camp, Tuacahn at night.
  3. Day 3: Sleep in, then a half day at Zion's Kolob Canyons, about 35 minutes up I-15, with no shuttle to manage.
  4. Day 4: Pack up and head home.
4 nights

The full Greater Zion trip

  1. Day 1: Arrive and unwind at camp.
  2. Day 2: A full day in Zion Canyon from the South Entrance in Springdale, about 45 minutes away. Our Zion guide covers parking and the shuttle.
  3. Day 3: An easy day at camp and Sand Hollow; tired legs need it.
  4. Day 4: Snow Canyon morning, Tuacahn night. Saturday? Add the free Tuacahn Saturday Market.
  5. Day 5: A slow breakfast and check-out.

Put the show after your big Zion day, not before it, so a late night doesn't collide with an early trailhead start. Want more ideas? Our owner's tips for Southern Utah list local favorites.

What should families know about late shows?

Before you go

  • Check the age rules. Tuacahn's minimum age is 3 in the Outdoor Amphitheatre and 5 in the indoor Hafen Theatre, and everyone needs a ticket. Each show posts its own guidance. Kids & families.
  • Little ones? ShowCare, Tuacahn's paid childcare for Amphitheatre shows, takes infants up to age 7 with advance registration through the Box Office. ShowCare ↗
  • Plan for a late finish. Some musicals run close to three hours with intermission (Tuacahn listed 2026's Les Misérables at about 2 hours 55 minutes). Add the drive back, and with a long show you may not reach camp until well after 11 p.m.
  • Soak before, not after. In winter the pool and hot tub are open for campers until 10 p.m., which is usually before you're home from the theatre. Take your swim in the afternoon.

At the show & after

  • Layers. The canyon cools quickly after sunset. Tuacahn allows jackets, gloves and blankets in the colder months, and shows go on in the rain (ponchos yes, umbrellas no). Weather tips.
  • Snacks, not meals. Outside snacks are allowed, full meals aren't, and glass and outside alcohol are not permitted.
  • Car-ready kids. Pajamas, a pillow and a blanket in the car make the drive home easy.
  • A quiet return. You'll roll in during quiet hours, so keep headlights low and doors gentle. Tomorrow is a slow morning.

Questions about staying near Tuacahn

Where is the closest place to stay near Tuacahn?

Ivins itself. Tuacahn is in Ivins, and central Ivins is about 3 miles (roughly 8 minutes) from the theatre. For camping, Snow Canyon State Park's south entrance is about 2.3 miles (roughly 7 minutes) away; its campground is 2 miles inside the park. Drive times are approximate.

Is there camping near Tuacahn Amphitheatre?

Yes. Snow Canyon State Park next door has a year-round campground with 38 units: standard sites, partial-hookup sites with water and 30-amp power, and hike-in tent pads, booked through ReserveAmerica from 4 months to 2 days ahead. There are also private RV parks and campgrounds around St. George, and Jellystone Park™ Zion in Hurricane is about 40 minutes away.

Is there an RV park near Tuacahn with full hookups?

Snow Canyon's campground offers partial hookups only (water and 30-amp electric on some sites, no sewer at the site, with a dump station). For full hookups, look at private RV parks in the St. George area, or Jellystone Park™ Zion in Hurricane: 30/50-amp power, water and sewer, with pull-throughs up to 75 feet and back-ins up to 70.

How far is Jellystone Park™ Zion from Tuacahn, and when should we leave?

About 23 miles, roughly 40 minutes without traffic, via SR-9, I-15 and Snow Canyon Parkway. For an evening show, leave about 2 hours before curtain: that covers 45–50 minutes of evening driving plus arriving about 45 minutes early to park, as Tuacahn recommends, and usually catches the free Plaza Stage pre-show.

Can we do Tuacahn and Zion National Park on the same trip?

Yes, and it's an easy pairing from Hurricane. Jellystone Park™ Zion is about 40 minutes from Tuacahn one way and about 35 minutes from Zion's Kolob Canyons entrance or about 45 minutes from the South Entrance in Springdale the other. Plan them on separate days so nobody is rushing a canyon hike to make curtain.

Are Tuacahn tickets included with a Jellystone Park™ Zion stay?

No. Tuacahn tickets are sold only by Tuacahn, online at tuacahn.org, by phone at 435-652-3300 or in person. Your campsite or cabin is a separate reservation, and there's no combined package.

Is the Water Zone open for a fall or winter Tuacahn trip?

The Water Zone is closed until the 2027 season, which runs March 13 to October 16, 2027. Through the winter, the heated lap pool and hot tub stay open for campers, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily on the current schedule. Check the park hours page before you book.

Can we bring our dog?

To Jellystone Park™ Zion, yes, on RV sites; cabins and tent sites are pet-free. Our pet policy says pets must be attended at all times and can't be left tied up outside, and Tuacahn welcomes service animals but not emotional-support animals. So arrange pet care for show night before you go.
