Tuacahn Center for the Arts: Plan Your Visit
Broadway-style musicals under 1,500-foot red cliffs, about 40 minutes from our gate. Turn show night into a Southern Utah getaway with Jellystone Park™ Zion as your home base.
What Tuacahn is
Tuacahn Center for the Arts is a nonprofit performing arts center in Ivins, Utah, built around a roughly 2,500-seat outdoor amphitheatre set against 1,500-foot red rock cliffs at the mouth of Padre Canyon. It opened in 1995, and each summer it produces Broadway-style musicals outdoors with a live orchestra, plus indoor productions in its 428-seat Hafen Theatre. In spring and fall the canyon hosts concerts, comedians and festivals, and the holidays bring Christmas in the Canyon.
A Tuacahn night is a big memory for a family trip: the sun drops behind the cliffs, the stage lights come up, and the canyon becomes the set. This guide covers how to find the right show and tickets, what to expect when you arrive, the age rules and weather tips that matter for families, and how to build a two- or three-night getaway around it.
Where it is
Tuacahn is in Ivins, just northwest of St. George, at the mouth of Padre Canyon. It sits next to Snow Canyon State Park, but the two are separate: Snow Canyon is a Utah state park with its own entrances and day-use fees, and Tuacahn is reached by its own road, Tuacahn Drive. That closeness is a gift for trip planners, though. Hike Snow Canyon in the cool of the morning, then come back for a show the same evening. See our Snow Canyon State Park guide.
Driving from Jellystone Park™
- From our gate, take Sand Hollow Road north to SR-9 and head west through Hurricane.
- Take I-15 south to Exit 8 (St. George Blvd).
- Follow Red Hills Parkway (or Bluff Street, as Tuacahn's directions suggest) to Snow Canyon Parkway.
- At the roundabout, take Snow Canyon Drive, then turn onto Tuacahn Drive to the venue.
About 23 miles and roughly 40 minutes (OpenStreetMap routing, no traffic). Evening traffic in St. George and the parking line add time, so leave early. Tuacahn's map & directions.
Shows & tickets
- Start with the official calendar. Tuacahn's calendar lists every production, concert and holiday event with dates, times and seats. Tuacahn recommends buying only directly from them: online, by phone or in person.
- Check each show page for its run time, intermission and age guidance before you book with kids.
- Read the ticket policies. Tuacahn says all orders are final and non-refundable; Broadway-show exchanges are possible with notice and a fee, and concert tickets can't be exchanged. Optional ticket protection is offered at purchase. Ticket policies.
- Separate purchases. Your Jellystone Park™ stay and your Tuacahn tickets are booked separately; there's no combined package.
The venues

Outdoor Amphitheatre
About 2,500 reserved, stadium-style flip-down seats facing the cliffs. Rows A–O have built-in cushions; elsewhere, cushions can be rented. Home to the summer musicals, fall and spring concerts and the Christmas season's live nativity. Before most Amphitheatre shows, a free short performance plays on the Plaza Stage about an hour before curtain.
Hafen Theatre
A temperature-controlled indoor theatre with up to 428 seats (14 rows on the floor and 5 in the balcony). It hosts indoor productions, including the holiday musical, so it's a comfortable choice in the colder months.
Arrival, parking & seating
- Arrive about 45 minutes early for the best parking, and earlier if you want the free Plaza Stage pre-show.
- Parking is free on site, with a drop-off zone near the Box Office for guests with mobility challenges.
- Pack light. Tuacahn inspects all bags and limits sizes (for example, a single-pocket tote up to 13" × 15" × 8"), and there's no bag check: anything too big goes back to the car. Security & bag policy.
- Accessible seating: in the Amphitheatre, an elevator near the Box Office leads to the Row O entrance and a ramp to ADA seating in Row L; wheelchairs can't go beyond the Row O entrance. The Hafen Theatre has ADA seating on the floor and balcony. Every ADA seat has a companion seat; book through the Box Office at 435-652-3300. Service animals are welcome.
- Photos are welcome before and after the show, but not during the performance.
Kids & families
- Minimum ages: 3 in the Outdoor Amphitheatre and 5 in the Hafen Theatre, and every audience member needs their own ticket.
- Check the specific show. Productions post their own age guidance and content notes, and some shows use fog, strobe lights, loud noises and fireworks.
- ShowCare childcare is offered for Amphitheatre performances, for infants up to age 7, for a fee, with advance registration through the Box Office. A parent stays on the property. ShowCare details.
- Late nights: evening shows end after dark and it's about a 40-minute drive back to camp, so a slow morning the next day (and a pool afternoon) helps.
- Free daytime fun: the Tuacahn Saturday Market runs year-round (weather permitting) with local art, crafts, food and live entertainment. Market hours.
Outdoor shows & weather
- The show goes on in the rain. Bring a poncho, hat or rain jacket; umbrellas aren't allowed.
- Dangerous weather (like lightning) can delay a start; Tuacahn holds the performance about 30 minutes before deciding, and events are typically not cancelled in advance. Check the official exchange rules.
- Dress for the canyon. No dress code. Light, breathable clothing on hot nights; jackets, gloves and blankets are allowed in the colder months.
- Water: bring a plastic or reusable bottle; there are free water stations on the Plaza.
Food & extras
- Tuacahn Café is open on show nights, with baskets, sandwiches, salads, street tacos and kids' meals, plus mobile pre-ordering. Café & hours.
- Plaza concessions sell popcorn, candied nuts, churros, nachos, candy and sodas.
- Bringing snacks: outside snacks are fine, full meals aren't. No glass or outside alcohol, and only small soft-sided coolers within the security page's size limit.
- Holidays: Christmas in the Canyon brings a live nativity, lights, Santa, plaza "snow" and a small train ride on select nights. See the official listing for dates and tickets.
